August 1, 2018: Controversy around the recently released National Register of Citizens (NRC) Final Draft of Assam seems to be never-ending. On Wednesday, All India Matua Mahasangha, an organisation of backward classes, on Wednesday resorted to rail blockade at different railway stations in Eastern Railway’s Sealdah section claiming that the complete draft of the NRC will leave many people homeless.

The draft which was released on June 30 by the Registrar General of India Sailesh in Guwahati excluded the names of 40, 07,708 applicants who were found ineligible.
Protesting the exclusion of 40 lakh people from the complete draft the All India Matua Mahasangha blocked train movement at different stations during peak office hours, as per reports.
The members of the organization gathered at various places in North Bengal’s 24 paraganas district to stop trains as a part of ‘Rail Roko Andolan’. As alleged by them, reportedly at least 5 lakh people of Matua community have been excluded from Assam NRC.
It may be stated that Matua Mahasangha is a religious reformation movement which originated in Bangladesh. Matua is a sect of Hindu folk religion and Matua Mahasangha is self-realisation.
