July 25, 2018: In a recent development, Patidar leader Hardik Patel has been sentenced to two yearsin jail by a Gujarat Court after he was found guilty in a rioting case that took place in 2015.Â

As per reports the court found Hardik along with two of his aides - Sardar Parel Group (SPG) convener Lalji Patel and another Patidar leader Ambalal Patel - guilty of rioting, arson, damage to property and unlawful assembly. It may be stated that the three have been fined Rs. 50,000 apart from the two-year imprisonment.

The other 14 accused were let off by the court for want of enough evidence against them.Â

Reportedly, Hardik is one of the accused in the FIR which was filed at Visnagar in Mehsana district on July 23, 2015, when a rally of the Patel community seeking reservation turned violent, resulting in damage to property and assault on some media persons.

During the violent agitation, the mob had torched a car and vandalized the office of local BJP MLA.
