June 6, 2018: Rajnath Singh is expected to visit Jammu and Kashmir to review the security situation in the state and to take a decision on whether the centre will extend the time period of Ramzan unilateral ceasefire there.

The Home Minister’s visit comes after terrorists had attacked an army patrol party in Kupwara on May 31 by lobbing grenades. As per reports, he will personally review the situation and get first hand feedback from the forces operating at ground zero.
Singh has pointed that the center’s decision not to proactively carry out operations during Ramzan was different from a unilateral ceasefire.
He has said that it had been clearly stipulated that the security forces would resume operation if any terror activity takes place in the valley. “We haven’t tied hands of our security forces, “he said.
Reportedly, Singh would review the progress of the Kupwara and Baramulla under the Aspirational Districts Scheme which is to improve socio-economic conditions in the 115 districts identified from 28 States.
After reviewing the security arrangement, Rajnath Singh is expected to join Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for Iftar on Thursday evening before flying to Jammu on Friday.
