Gujarat: IAF aircraft crashes in Kutch district, pilot killed

June 5, 2018: On Tuesday, an Indian Air Force’s (IAF) aircraft – Jaguar crashed in Gujarat's Kutch district soon after take-off in the morning leading to the death of the pilot.


As per reports, the aircraft had taken off from Jamnagar Airbase for a routine training mission and crashed near a village. The pilot namely Air Cmde Sanjay Chauhan got injured fatally during the crash.
A court of inquiry has been ordered to investigate cause of the crash.
The plane's debris was strewn on the fields near a village in Kutch, around 340 km from Ahmedabad.
Reportedly, the locals found the debris of the aircraft and informed local authorities, including the police and the district administration. Some cattle have also been reported to be killed as the plane came down in a barren landscape.
It may be stated that the incident comes months after a Microlight Virus SW-80 helicopter of the IAF crashed in Assam's Majuli killing two pilots -- Wing Commander J James and Wing Commander D Vats.
Later in April, a Mi-17 chopper crashed in Uttarakhand’s Kedarnath in April, injuring six. An IAF chopper also crash landed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Natha Top on May 23. However, all passengers and the crew were safe.
