March 6, 2018: Thirty-two people lost their lives after the Russian transport plane they were travelling in crashed in Syria.

Reportedly, the Antonov-26 aircraft crashed at Russia's Hmeymim airbase in Latakia province.
Twenty-six passengers and six crew members were on the aircraft when it went down at about 3pm Moscow time.
Initial information suggested the crash may have been caused by a technical fault. The aircraft hit the ground about 500 metres short of the runway as per reports.
It may be stated that the Hmeymim is Russia's main base for air strikes on rebel groups in Syria - strikes that have enabled Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces to recover much lost ground.
