Navjot Kaur becomes first Indian Woman Wrestler to win Asian Gold

March 3, 2018: Navjot Kaur created a history on 2nd March by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to win gold in the Senior Asian Championships as she clinched the yellow metal in the 65kg freestyle category.

Navjot produced a thoroughly dominating performance. She was impressive throughout her final bout as she recorded a convincing win.

Rio Olympics bronze medalist Sakshi Malik won bronze in the 62 kg freestyle category after getting the better of Kazakhstan’s Ayaulym Kassymova 10-7 in a tough fight.

The two medals took India's medal tally to six – gold, silver, and four bronze medals.

The historic achievement was lauded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports stating, “The year has begun on a great note for Indian sports. Here's too many more record breaking performances.”

Her win was also lauded by state leaders and members of parliament alike.
