January 17, 2018: Despite  Sanjay Leela Bhansali\'s movie Padmaavat was given pass by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)- by asking the makers to change the title from Padmavati to Padmaavat and suggested some other modifications- yet the movie has been banned in Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh by the BJP government.

The movie had been in controversy since several months as Rajput fringe groups took issue against the movie’s content keeping in view the sentiments of people who felt that history had been "distorted" in the period drama. As per allegation, Bhansali had wrongly presented historical facts in the movie to "defame" the image of Rani Padmavati which had hurt the sentiments of people.

Reportedly, Gujarat government had issued a notification on banning the screening of "Padmaavat" across the state, saying the step was necessary to maintain law and order. As per the notification, the ban was imposed as per the provisions of the Gujarat Cinemas (Regulation) Act of 2004. With this notification, the movie will be considered as a non-certified one and will not be screened in the state of Gujarat," said Mr Jadeja. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani announced that the ban on the movie will continue despite the change of the title.

Whereas Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the state government will not release the movie without "amicable solution" for all parties involved.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given no clarity on if “Padmaavat” will be released in the state or not. Whereas Goa\'s Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar confirmed that the film which changed its title as \'Padmaavat\' now, would release in the state.

The CBFC had given clearance to Padmaavat last month, after a change of name and deleting a few scenes. However, the Karni Sena has said that a change of name won’t be enough and has demanded a nationwide ban on the film and so the Rajput wants. On Tuesday, Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi said that they want nothing less than nationwide ban on the movie.

During the protests against the film, the makers had on Monday issued a full-page ‘fact-sheet’ on Padmaavat, saying the film was based on a word of fiction and that it did not distort any facts.

On the other hand, producers of the film have moved the Supreme Court against the film being banned in various states even after receiving a clearance from the CBFC.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud considered the submission of the counsel of the producer that the matter be heard urgently in view of the ban on its release by various state governments.

\'Padmaavat\', which stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in lead roles,  is now all set to reportedly release on January 25, 2018 despite all the ongoing protests.
