Maruti Suzuki, the Indi’s largest carmaker has been slapped a fine of Rs.60,000 by the consumer court for refusing to repair a car which is still under warranty.

Balbir Singh , a resident of Delhi while driving his brand new car suddenly stopped on the road which was towed to the authorised dealer of Maruti Suzuki.

The Maruti workshop told that the car was facing a trouble of hydrostatic lock that will not be covered under warranty and gave him a huge amount as an estimate for the repair.

This is a problem which occurs when water enters the engine.

“How is it possible that in a place like Delhi which usually faces a problem of waterlogging, one will not include hydrostatic lock under warranty. I felt cheated," said the 70-year-old, according to a report by the TOI.

The consumer filed a case, praying for removing the defect as part of the warranty or refund the price of the car.

After almost 2 years, the consumer court held the manufacturer and the dealer guilty of deficiency in service and ordered to repair the vehicle free of charge within a month and awarded compensation of Rs 50,000 for harassment and mental agony suffered and also asked it to pay Rs 10,000 as the litigation cost.
