Naidu was administered the oath of office by President Ram Nath Kovind. The swearing-in ceremony took place in the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Naidu defeated the opposition's candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi to win the vice-presidential election. It may be stated that Naidu won by 272 votes which is the highest in a vice presidential election in the last three decades.
He is a two-time Union minister and four-time Rajya Sabha member. Before he was NDA's Vice Presidential candidate he held the portfolios of Parliamentary Affairs, Information and Broadcasting and Urban Development.
It may be stated that with Naidu becoming the Vice-President, for the first time in the history, BJP leaders are occupying top four constitutional posts of the country - President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan all come from BJP.
