The world’s first battery free cell phone have been invented by scientists, including those of Indian origin that consumes almost zero power and runs by harvesting energy from ambient radio signals or light.
Shyam Gollakota, associate professor at the University of Washington (UW) in the US, said “We have built what we believe is the first functioning cell phone that consumes almost zero power.”
The phone runs by harvesting energy from ambient radio signals or light.
The prototype of the battery-free phone was tested to make Skype calls and other basic functions.
Using Skype, the scientists were able to receive incoming calls, dial phone calls and place callers on hold using the battery- free phone.
