Indian Women's hockey team qualified World League semi-final

 April 10, 2017: Indian Women's hockey team defeated Chile in Women's Hockey World League Round 2 at Canada and qualified for the World League Semi-final, in West Vancouver. The match went into the shoot-out when both the team ends at 1-1 after the regular time. In the shootout, Indian goalkeeper Savita Punia was outstanding under the bar. The India beat Chile in the shootout by 3-1.

In the beginning, India's performance was poor in comparison to Chile and conceded a goal in 5th minute to Maria Maldonado. India failed to equalize the score until Anupa Barla scored in the penalty corner in the 41st minute. Skipper Rani Rampal came close to convert a goal but her strong backhand shot was saved by Claudia. 
Though, Indian Women's hockey team was not at its best form in the game but managed to win through the shootout. Goalkeeper Savita continued her good run of form in the competition to make two crucial saves in the shootout and hand India the title. After winning the final, skipper Rani Rampal said that it was a challenging tournament for them because Chile was not easy to beat and when Chile earned an early goal, Indian team really had to keep themselves motivated to keep pushing for a goal.
