Sachin Tendulkar looked in supreme touch as he remained unbeaten at 70 runs with some great shot making for the spectators.

On New Zealand’s front, Chris Martin proved to be doubly fatal in the day as he claimed the wicket of veteran Test specialist VVS Laxman at a score of 30 runs after scalping Gambhir for a
Laxman forced a drive into the hands of Ross Taylor as his on-the-edge knock came to an end. He must have felt the pang after losing his wicket after a lot of toil was done to get his eye set in.

The day overall kept on the side of the Indian batting as it shone bright. Opener Gautam Gambhir started the festivities with a fine fifty that was emulated by Rahul Dravid.

It was after the departure of the two stalwarts that Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman took control of the proceedings at Seddon Park and took the Indian total to 197 runs for the loss of three wickets at tea time.

Dravid fell victim to Iain O’Brien’s guile at 66 after proving his good form for the tour.

The first casualty for the day was Virender Sehwag who ran out of crease at 24.
