'Xudhakontho' Dr. Bhupen Hazarika remembered on his 4th death anniversary

5 Nov, 2015--Assam pays rich tributes to the internationally acclaimed musical maestro Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of his fourth death anniversary. Born in the land of rising sun, Assam, Dr. Hazarika was a multifaceted genius, whose songs carried the message of humanity and universal brotherhood. Apart from being a poet, musician, lyricist, and film maker, Dr Bhupen Hazarika was a true Humanist, who used his songs as instruments of spreading messages of communal amity, universal justice and empathy.A recipient of the National Award, Sangeet Natak Akademi, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, the minstrel, Dr Bhupen Hazarika, left for heavenly abode on November 5, 2011. Although the void of the cultural icon of Northeast would always be felt, Dr. Hazarika would continue to remain immortal, leaving behind a rich musical legacy of international attention.To observe the occasion of the bard’s 4th death anniversary, a series of events has been staged at the Samadhi Kshetra of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, at Jalukbari in Guwahati.The event began by lighting lamps and paying floral tributes at the portrait of the musical maestro, which was attended by many dignitaries. People from diverse sections of the society flocked in to pay heartfelt tributes to the legend. State Cultural Affairs minister Bismita Gogoi was present at the occasion to pay tributes to the legendary artist.A day-long homage paying ceremony and cultural functions has been lined up at his Samadhi Kshetra today, and various local singers were seen rendering Dr. Hazarika’s evergreen songs. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today officially unveiled Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's full sized statue at the Samadhi kshetra, in a grand ceremony. A religious prayer function was held at Dr Hazarika’s ancestral residence situated at Nizarapar, in Guwahati, attended by his relatives and loved ones.Dr. Hazarika's 4th death anniversary was observed by various organisations, educational institutions, NGOs, at various places in Assam, with day-long programmes.
