SC agrees to decide validity of Aadhaar
Posted on: 08-10-2015 , 04:29:PM | DY365 Bureau

Oct 8, 2015- The Union Government on Thursday got hope from the Supreme Court for early hearing of its application seeking permission to use Aadhar card as the means to identify target population for social welfare schemes.

A day after a 3-judge bench refused to clarify its August 11 order limiting Aadhar card usage to avail LPG subsidy and ration from PDS shops saying it would be heard by a constitution bench, attorney general Mukul Rohatgi and states along with important organisations mentioned for urgent hearing before a bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu.
The Centre has argued that more than 90 crore people in India hold Aadhar card, which could be a one window identification mechanism to ensure the benefits of social welfare schemes reaching the target group.
