The first batch of tickets for the 2010 FIFA WorldCup in SouthAfrica went on sale on Friday, with tournament organisers hopeful that the demand for tickets would remain high, despite the global economic downturn.

Danny Jordaan, CEO of the local organising committee said that the latest phase of the ticketing process showed that SouthAfrica was ready to stage the tournament, and that no backup plan to host the competition in an alternative country was needed.SOUNDBITE (English) Danny Jordaan, CEO of the Local Organising Committee:
"Clearly the only place you can watch the WorldCup in 2010 and the only place where tickets are available for the WorldCup is in SouthAfrica, so that certainly spells the end and the death of Plan B."Stadium construction in SouthAfrica has been plagued by delays and industrial unrest.
But initial fears that the venues would not be ready in time have eased as most building is on schedule.
